Sergeant Shari Dennison of the Greenville Police Department says a spike in armed and strong arm robberies is pretty common this time of the year. Just this past weekend, five separate robberies were reported in Greenville alone. Police say thieves know shoppers are often distracted and carry lots of cash and because of that people need to stay on high alert. Sergeant Dennison says women in particular should always check their cars before getting in them. To combat the surge in crime, police say they will aggressively patrol area malls and businesses during the holiday season.
