A man from Eastern Carolina has been killed in a car crash.

Wilmington police say 68-year-old Moses Wheeler, Jr. of Atlantic Beach in Carteret County died in the four-car crash Monday. Police say Wheeler drove into oncoming traffic on Market St. near Cardinal Dr. in Wilmington around 5:45 p.m. Monday, setting off the accident.

Police think it's possible Wheeler suffered from a medical condition before the crash; a witness said it appeared he passed out.

Everyone else involved survived the crash. However, police say Wheeler's passenger, 62-year-old Helen I. Cutler of Wilmington, is listed in serious condition at the hospital in Wilmington. The driver of the vehicle police say Wheeler hit head-on is also in serious condition. He is 35-year-old James L. Rose. Police did not list his home town.

Two others involved were treated and released from the hospital.
