The portrait of former North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley is staying out sight -- very much like the man himself.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reports Saturday that the former governor's portrait is in storage at the North Carolina Museum of
History.

Portraits of other recent governors hang in government
buildings, and state law requires a portrait be painted of each governor. The Department of Cultural Resources says the portrait is
still in storage because it hasn't had an official unveiling.

Easley is known for keeping a low profile.

Federal prosecutors have issued subpoenas seeking information about the Easleys, including the family's travels and a marina
renovation. Prosecutors also want to know about former first lady
Mary Easley's job at N.C. State.
