People flying in and out of the Pitt-Greenville airport may see some new improvements in the future.

North Carolina Senator Kay Hagan says the airport will receive nearly $800,000 from a federal aviation grant to improve its terminal.

Renovations will include an upgraded security system and installation of a second-floor lobby for airline passengers.

Airport manager Jim Turcotte says after 35 years he is retiring and this was his last project.

Airport administrator Jerry Vickers says the improvements should make flying out of the airport more comfortable.

Renovations are expected to begin by late August and be completed within the next two years.

PGV had already received a $6.8M stimulus grant and this $800K was an increase to the original amount. Plus the airport is getting a previously planned annual FAA grant of $1.4M. So the total amount for the terminal expansion is a little over $9M. The report didn't explain this very well.

Congradulations Mr. Turcotte. You fought a long and hard battle to get PGV where it is today.Without you and your dedicated staff Grenville would only be a regular air field. You have brought it into the 21st century with jet passenger service. Almost every seat on every flight is sold. Now with the new terminal addition with jet ports and a larger waiting lounge we will be set for more oppertunities for other airlines to come into PGV. Thank you again Mr. Turcotte for your tireless dedication to the Pitt Grenville Airport these past 35 years. Mr. Jerry Vickers you have big shoes to fill, I'm sure with the same loyalty from your staff you can do it. I can't wait to see the finished project.

PGV is about to begin construction of terminal upgrades with over $9 million dollars to work with. Where does the $800,000 you mention fit into the story?
