Accuser In Duke Lacrosse Rape Case Is Pregnant

A hearing scheduled today in the Duke lacrosse rape case comes amid a series of developments, including word that the woman at the center of the case is about to give birth.

The pregnancy was confirmed late yesterday by a person familiar with the case, speaking to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity. Two televisions stations in Raleigh reported the woman gave birth last night. Today a judge ordered that all three Duke acrosse players accused of raping the dancer take paternity tests.

The development came just hours after defense attorneys filed a motion highlighting what they consider numerous holes in the accuser's story.

Defense attorneys want a judge to bar prosecutors from using a photo lineup at their clients' trial and to prevent the accuser from identifying the players from the witness stand.

It's not clear whether the defense will argue its new motions at the hearing, which is expected mostly to deal with scheduling.
