The son-in-law of a South Carolina couple who drowned when their car went off Interstate 95 and sank in a creek says the family wants some down time.
Danny Rodriguez was an early arrival at the site of the accident in which Wayne and Dianne Guay died. Autopsies show the Myrtle Beach couple drowned after their Mazda 3 sank in 6 to 8 feet of dark, murky water near Rocky Mount.
Rodriguez also says the family is, quote, "just trying to put our parents to rest."
Lieutenant Everett Clendenin of the state Highway Patrol says the Guays' car was spotted Monday near milepost 140 by a Department of Transportation contractor.
But the Highway Patrol received a call about 7:30 a-m from Nash County emergency dispatchers that a 9-1-1 caller had reported a car off the road near mile marker 141. The trooper who responded didn't find any signs of an accident even though he backtracked and searched again. Clendenin says the trooper reported the scene was clear.
