Robotic Surgery Gaining Ground In Operating Rooms

The number of robotic surgeries doctors at Pitt County Memorial Hospital have completed to date. And one of their success stories saw for the first time how the technology works. Duncan Charlton of Kinston chose robotic surgery over a traditional surgical procedure when he learned he had prostate cancer. Charlton says seeing the technology doctors used to operate on him was astounding. To mark this milestone of several hundred robotic surgeries, the hospital announced it purchased a third "Da Vinci" surgical system for over $1 million. The robot allows surgeons to perform complicated procedures with minimal invasiveness, which doctors say often translates into shorter recovery times for patients
