Prostitution is something you don't hear a lot about in Eastern Carolina.
But lawmen say the sale of sex for money is a problem. The New Bern police department is taking a proactive approach to stop prostitution. The narcotics-vice unit made contact with two escort services through local advertisements and set up meetings. Officials say the two businesses are Dawn's Angels in Morehead City and Katlyn's Kittens in Jacksonville. Escort services are legal in our state, but it is illegal to offer sex in exchange for money. New Bern police tell us four arrests resulted from its undercover sting Friday. Kimberly Ann Corey, 35 years old, whom police say works with Dawn's Angels, now faces drug and prostitution charges. William Roberts, 54 years old, was charged with aiding and abetting prostitution. Police say two people from Katyln's Kittens were arrested, the owner, 27-year-old Mandy Murphy , and 25-year-old Corrianne King, both of Jacksonville. Each face a prostitution related charge as well as a larceny charge.
