Sounds like alot of the animal control people either don,t know what their talking about or don't care. I'ld go for the don't care himself. You don't throw a dead rabid animal caracss "in a ditch" just how stupid is this. A friend of mines little girl was attacked in the back yard by a rabid squirrel, animal control told my friend squirrels don't carry rabies-(yeah we just fell off a turnip truck). They never came out until the next day then caught "a" squirrel and said it was the one that bite her daughter. Then a few days later they called and said the squirrel was not rabid! An innocent animal died because anaimal control are too stupid and lazy to do their job. I think we need more concerned people doing this job, that care at least a little. Maybe their too afraid to come in contact with what they are paid to take care of!!!!!

At least 5 suspicious raccoons have been killed in my neighborhood in the last 3 weeks. (On decks, near people, aggressive). We have called animal control and they told us they could be rabid, but just to throw the carcasses in the ditch away from the house. He said testing was too expensive and was rarely done. We knew the dead animal could spread the virus and we buried the carcass and placed the shovel in fire to kill the virus. Martin Co needs to better inform their animal control staff!
