It could affect Dish Network customers across Eastern Carolina. An October U.S. District Court decision effective Friday orders Echostar, which operates Dish Network, to stop providing out-of-area network channels to about 15 percent of their viewers nationwide. Out-of-area channels are those from outside the viewer's local market. The court ruling stated that Echostar was sending out-of-area channels to ineligible viewers for a profit without paying any additional fees to the networks. Echostar is the nation's second-largest satellite provider with 12.8 million customers.
