A 17 year old now faces a murder charge after authorities say he shot and killed a man at the Greenville Stop One.
Greenville Police say David McLawhorn was arrested and charged Friday for the murder of William Powell the third.
On Saturday June 6th, officers say McLawhorn shot and killed Powell at the Watauga Avenue convenience store.
They say the shooting was the result of a robbery of marijuana and money gone wrong.
McLawhorn was also charged for armed robbery and assault on a child that happened on May 4th when police say he robbed a 25 year old woman at knife point and pushed her 3 year old son to the ground.
That incident happened at the intersection of Chestnut Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. McLawhorn's in the Pitt County Detention Center under no bond.

This is another example of the system failing our youth. This young man has been in and out of the system but nothing has changed in his life to keep him from picking up a gun. Not that there is any excuse for his behavior, and never a good reason to take another person's life but we have to find the answer to the problems. Our young people are our future and right now without serious change the future looks very grim. The bottom line is we have to change the system to make it count, the youth are not learning how to be responsible for their own actions. We have to be firm or we will continue to be their victims and I refuse to be a victim. Yes the system is failing, but only because it is a weak joke. Let's put them away and make it count, let's change the way they serve and see it. Let's make the system tougher on the juveniles who don't want to be productive members of our society. Let's fix the system and lock them away.
