A woman will spend at least the next 14 years in prison on second degree murder and DWI charges.
Beaufort County prosecutors say Karrie Respess of Belhaven had a blood alcohol level of .17 and they estimate she was speeding at over 100 miles per hour when her car crashed in Sidney Road in January 2008. Authorities say the woman was under the influence of cocaine and opiates.
Killed in the accident was David Fritzler, a passenger in the woman's car.
Prosecutors say they decided to charge the woman with second degree murder because of her high blood alcohol level, the use of controlled substances, coupled with prior convictions of fleeing police and driving while her license was revoked.

There will always be drugs dealt no matter how hard the police work. It is ultimately a person's decision whether or not to do them. If you hang with those kind of people, there is no telling what is going happen. Whether it is being arrested, killed for having owed money for drugs, or getting in a vehicle with someone messed up. It is unfortunate what happened, but that is the lifestyle so many chose.

To Doesn't Matter. Let me just say that before you start running your mouth about things you dont know or you "suspect" or "infer" or "think", why dont you stop suspecting, inferring or thinking about it. This man who was in the car was my brother. Yes, my brother. Karrie was his friend, and he has known her for a while. Just because you ride with someone doesnt make them a cocaine addict. She is a nice person, but she does need help. But no matter what any of you think, no matter what the sentence is, it wont bring him back. He is gone and nothing can replace him. So before you post stupid responses, think about the families. Oh and yes, maybe someone in law enforcement should go down to fantasy island and bust up the druglords there. They know what goes on, but turn the other cheek.

To 'doesn't matter': How bout you leave the deceased out of it? It doesn't matter at this point what he was doing or why. His family paid the ultimate cost. Have a little sympathy for them.
