Repairs Are Underway To Highway 17 Bridge

There are a few minor problems the state Department of Transportation says has to be corrected within three months. Inspectors from Raleigh were out on the bridge all day Tuesday examining the gears, the top deck and the bridge's rusted beams. Transportation supervisor, D.R. Alligood says the substructure is expected to be complete within ninety days. And yes, travel is safe over the bridge Alligood points out, but says the top deck needs to be completely replaced. He anticipates the full replacement within the next six months.
