A Virginia man drowned over the weekend while canoeing at a state park in Gates County, North Carolina.
Authorities say the death of 50-year-old Peter Paul Constanzer of New Kent at Merchants Millpond State Park was ruled accidental. Park superintendent Jay Greenwood says Constanzer was one of six friends camping at the canoe-in campground Friday night. The rest decided to head back to make dinner and Constanzer wanted to stay out. His friends found his overturned canoe the next morning.
Park rangers and Gates County emergency personnel found his body
on Saturday afternoon. Greenwood says it's unclear how Constanzer's canoe tipped.
