One of North Carolina's longtime Democratic activists is dead. Marvin Blount Junior of Greenville died Friday of pancreatic cancer at the age of 67.
Blount was a trial lawyer who ran briefly for the Senate in 1985. With a crowded field seeking the Democratic nomination, he bowed out of the race and went to work on the campaign of former Governor Terry Sanford -- who ultimately won.
Blount continued to work behind the scenes on other campaigns and was a frequent donor to the party and its candidates. He spent several years as a superior court judge before returning to private practice.
