Raleigh Media Company Plans To Buy Triad Stations

A media company based in Raleigh has its eyes on three radio stations in the Triad.

The Curtis Media Group plans to buy WSJS of Winston-Salem, one of the oldest radio stations in North Carolina. It also wants to acquire WMFR of High Point and WSML of Graham in a package deal from CBS Radio.

All three stations have a news-talk format. Curtis Media CEO Phil Zachary says the company wants to keep the local news programming. Curtis Media already owns two Triad stations, and has ten in the Triangle and three in eastern North Carolina. Zachary
says the company hopes to expand to Charlotte when a good opportunity arises.

The deal is expected to close within 90 days, pending FCC approval.
