High School Coach Charged With Assaulting Player

A high school football coach is charged with assaulting one of his players.
Christshawn Gilliam, who serves as a part-time assistant coach for the Bertie High School football team, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon and felony child abuse. Gilliam is accused of punching a fifteen year-old player in the eye and head while wearing a large football championship ring late Wednesday during practice. Lawmen say Gilliam said it was an accident.
