Some DMV Offices Closing In Eastern Carolina

Motorists who need to visit the Division of Motor Vehicles offices in northeastern North Carolina are about to experience some changes.

Division spokeswoman Marge Howell says the Windsor office is one of nine in the state slated to be closed and replaced by a mobile service center.

The Plymouth office will also close and its staff will be moved to Edenton, which will be open for more days during the week as part of a consolidation of six offices throughout North Carolina.

Howell says a mobile unit will also be scheduled to visit Plymouth after the office closes. In its budget bill, the General Assembly charged the D-M-V with closing smaller, under-used offices to save money.

All of the changes are expected to take place at the end of the year or early next year, and a mobile unit schedule will be announced before the changes. D-M-V says there are three mobile units equipped with the latest technology and offer the same services as a full-time site.
