Rocky Mount Man Dies After Police Use Taser To Subdue Him

A man, who Rocky Mount Police had to use a taser gun on to subdue Tuesday night, is dead.

Authorities say it started when Timothy Newton came out of his hotel room and put his hand through a glass window, and then broke two windows at the EP Mart in Gold Rock.

Police say Newton was argumentative and combative with responding officers. That's when the police department says one officer deployed his taser gun on Newton, who was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy is being performed.

The State Bureau of Investigation is also taking over the investigation. As is standard procedure, the officers involved are on administrative assignment.
