Davis Hiring Brings End To Coaching Uncertainty At UNC

The coaching uncertainty is finally gone for North Carolina. But for now, defensive end Hilee Taylor is more concerned about giving fired coach John Bunting a proper send-off before turning to newly hired coach Butch Davis.

Taylor says he doesn't know anything about Davis. And quarterback Cam Sexton says he's also focusing on the present upcoming games against N-C State and Duke instead of thinking about the future.

North Carolina, who is 1-9 this year, hasn't had a winning season since 2001. Supporters are hoping Davis can pull off the same kind of turnaround he led in Miami, taking a team facing NCAA sanctions to the brink of a national championship within five years.

Davis was a longtime understudy of Jimmy Johnson's with Oklahoma State, Miami and the Dallas Cowboys before getting his first head coaching job with the Hurricanes in 1995.

Johnson says Davis is one of the best coaches he's ever had work for him.
