Marine Gets Six Month Sentence In Accidental Shooting Of Comrade

A Marine Corps reservist from Pennsylvania is facing six months in military jail after pleading guilty to negligent homicide.

Lance Corporal Michael C. Fulcher was sentenced Tuesday at a Camp Lejeune court-martial, at which he also pleaded guilty to negligent use of a firearm.

Military policeman Lance Corporal Adam Fales was killed nearly one year ago in his barracks room at Iraq's Camp Fallujah. Fulcher and Lance Corporal Sean P. Riley were his roommates. Fales was killed when a loaded rifle fired accidentally as Fulcher picked it up.

Riley was charged with involuntary manslaughter and dereliction of duty and was scheduled to appear in court today.

Riley and Fulcher were members of a reserve unit from Lehigh, Pennsylvania, and were attached to the Second Military Police Battalion at Camp Lejeune. Fales was an active duty Marine based at Cherry Point and had asked to be transferred to Lejeune so he could go to Iraq.
