UPDATED: Parent Concerned Over Reported Bus Incident, Says She Won't Sue

A Kinston woman says she's decided not to sue her son's school after she says her 11 year old was kicked off the school bus and left to find his own way home.
Angie Williamson and her sixth grade son Alex Estep were in good spirits Friday, but that wasn't the case a few days ago when Angie found out her son was taken back to school because of bad behavior and forced to call home for a ride.
When Alex couldn't get ahold of her he started to walk-home, which is 13-miles away from where he attends, E.B. Frink Middle School in La Grange.
Williamson says she spoke to a school board member today who apologized and said policies would be changed.

A sixth grader's mom tells WITN she's angry and confused saying her son was kicked off the school bus and that he started to walk the 13 miles home.
Angie Williamson's son goes to Frink middle school in the Lenoir County town of La Grange. Williamson says there was a fight on the school bus on the ride home, and the driver turned around and dropped her son and two other students back at the school.
According to school officials, the students were told to call their parents to pick them up. The students claim they told a school official they were leaving and started walking. Another student's mother picked them up a short time later.
The school says at no point were the students told to walk home and that they did it on their own accord. Lidia Guzman, spokesperson for the school system, says, "from what i understand the students were not given permission to walk home. They were told a teacher would drive them home. If they could not get their parents a teacher would take them."
School officials say they called several times but did not get a response from Williamson. Williamson says they called once and when she called back no one was available.
Williamson says she has hired an attorney.

The kids should have stayed at the school to wait for their rides home instead of choosing to walk home. If these were my kids, they wouldn't be able to sit for a while. Also, since when would teachers offer kids rides home? I have never heard of that. My kids went to Lenoir schools for a while and no teacher ever offered them a ride home. I always had to leave work when something came up.

She should sue. She should learn how to make her son mind adults. I agree the school should be able to sue parents who's kids are holdums. THis is just nuts. IF she sued, she should only win parenting classes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

E.A., you are awesome. Kids aren't perfect all the time. But when preparing them for adulthood, we need to teach them to follow the rules. If they don't, they need to suffer the consequences.
