The Cataloochee Ski Area opened this weekend. Crews cranked up the snow-making machine late last week when the forecast promised cold weather for the weekend.
General manager Chris Bates notes that Cataloochie has only been closed seven months -- since April First. He says he hopes to keep the slopes going until the end of April this year.
Only a few of the park's 12 runs were open, and the resort is closed today. But managers hope to have the slopes ready again this Saturday.
