A statewide Amber Alert for a missing 15-year-old girl has been canceled after authorities found her safe at a home with her boyfriend.
Alex Elizabeth Spriggs was found at a home in Hallsboro hours after the alert was issued yesterday. The boyfriend has been arrested.
Authorities say Spriggs had walked to a gas station early Sunday morning in search of a ride to her boyfriend's house. Brunswick County Sheriff Ronald Hewitt says she waited at the convenience store for 14 hours, trying to call her boyfriend more than a dozen times at a pay phone.
Hewett says a surveillance video showed her leaving with a man in a pickup truck late Sunday afternoon. Authorities found the man, who says he dropped Spriggs off at a home in Hallsboro with a teenager she said was her boyfriend.
A ground and air search was initiated for the teenager, and Spriggs' father flew in from Huntsville, Alabama, to help in the search.
