Students will not return this year to Eastern Guilford High School after it was destroyed by fire.
Three firefighters were injured while trying to fight the blaze, which started yesterday in a classroom. One firefighter was treated at the scene while to others went to the hospital. There were no other injuries reported.
More than a thousand students attend the school. Everyone was evacuated from the building to a nearby church during the fire that started in a second-floor chemistry classroom.
Classes are canceled for Thursday and Friday as school officials decide what to do next. The school board plans to hold an emergency school board meeting Thursday.
