19-Year-Old Sentenced In 2005 Gates County Shooting Deaths

A 19-year-old will serve up to 51 years in prison for the shooting deaths of his stepgrandparents in July 2005.

This month, Michael Chadwick Geddings agreed to plead guilty to two counts of second-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, larceny of a firearm and larceny of a motor vehicle.

Charles and Phyllis Dennis were found shot to death on July fifth, 2005, in their Gates County home. Geddings initially pleaded not guilty, but his attorney says his client couldn't remember what happened.

R. Andrew Womble says Geddings had gone through psychological
evaluations when he was 13 as a result of "an incident with a family member," but that treatment had suddenly stopped.

Geddings faced his family and asked forgiveness, but several family members shook their heads, saying "no."
