Federal Probe Closer To Plant Fire Origin

Federal investigators say the fire at a hazardous waste plant in Apex may have started where pool chlorination chemicals were stored.

Officials from the Chemical Safety Board say the first portion of their investigation has been completed. The board also says the mixture of chemicals at the EQ Industrial Services plant caused an uncontrolled reaction that produced flammable vapor October fifth.

Nearly 17-thousand residents of the town near Raleigh were told to evacuate after an explosion and fire at EQ spewed a potentially deadly haze over parts of the town.
