“Statehouse Blues”

It’s being called the “Statehouse Blues.” Election night is supposed to be a night of anxiety, of waiting for the polls to close and returns to come in, but that’s not the case for half of this year’s statehouse candidates in North Carolina, whose races were sewn up months ago because they lacked opponents.

We’re not alone. An Associated Press analysis shows more than 30 percent of this year’s state legislative races across the country have already been settled.
