"Nothing has had a more profound effect on me than anything I've done in politics..." That's how Belhaven resident and former Capitol Hill Staffer Joel Raupe describes his nearly two year stint as a Congressional page.
Raupe worked on the Hill in 1974 under the appointment of former U.S. Congressman Jim Wright of Texas.
Roupe calls the experience enlightening and is thankful he had the opportunity to see history in the making.
Because of Raupe's 18-month service as a page, he is participating with the investigation of the Mark Foley scandal. He calls his participation informal.
Raupe feels the page program should remain in place because it is an extraordinary opportunity to see the government up close and personal.
