A fire at a scrap yard in Smithfield is finally under control Sunday. On Saturday it sent smoke billowing into the sky overhead. Eleven fire departments sent firemen to the scene at the Atlantic Scrap and Processing Facility. Johnston County emergency officials say the flames broke out in a pile of scrap metal, like old refrigerators, cars, washing machines and more. Luckily no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
