State officials say cleanup can resume at the hazardous waste storage facility site in Apex.
A company hired to clean up the mess after a massive fire two
weeks ago was ordered to stop yesterday after a drum containing a
sodium metal solution ignited at the E-Q Industrial Services site.
A toxic plume went up into the air and several businesses near
the site were evacuated.
Now that E-Q has provided a written description of the incident
and steps being taken to ensure public safety, the state's Division
of Waste Management has said cleanup can start again.
The October Fifth fire at the plant prompted town officials to urge up to 17-thousand residents to leave their homes.
