Emergency Officials say a tornado touched down before 6 o'clock Tuesday night causing major damage to mobile homes and roof damage to single family homes in the Nash County town of Bailey.

Officials say the areas affected include Pearsons Peak, Graham Brantley Road, Smith Road and West Hornes Church Road.

The Sheriff's Office, EMS, and Fire Departments have responded to power lines down. Power crews have been dispatched to the area while the Red Cross is preparing to feed and shelter those displaced by the storm.

There are some reports of minor injuries, but the extent is not known.

Hail was also reported in Nash County Tuesday, near New Hope along Highway 97 East and Strickland Crossroads. Tree limbs three inches in diameter were reported down.
