Recruiters from historically black colleges and institutions in North Carolina are now targeting Hispanics for their classes. The recruiters say a demographic shift that's resulted in more Hispanics than blacks in the United States means they must try to enroll Hispanics in order not to deplete enrollments. Data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows statewide the Hispanic population increased almost 600 percent during the same period.
