ThinkPad Announcement

ThinkPad notebooks from computer-maker Lenovo already let the user log on with a thumbprint instead of a password. New technology being announced today will allow users to encrypt their entire hard drives at the press of a finger.

A Lenovo executive in the company's Research Triangle Park headquarters says the announcement comes amid growing concerns
about data theft due to lost or stolen laptops.

Clain Anderson, director of the company's ThinkVantage technologies, says news about major thefts of laptops has owners looking for ways to protect all their data without making it harder to use the computer.

Lenovo is the world's Number Three maker of personal computers.
It bought I-B-M's P-C division last year.
