The Intracoastal Waterway in North Carolina is getting some federal stimulus money for dredging the channel.

The Star-News of Wilmington reported Tuesday that $3 million will go to dredge the waterway from Morehead City to South Carolina line. The waterway is supposed to be at least 12 feet deep, but years of little or no dredging have cut that nearly in half in some areas.

The Army Corps of Engineers also plans to spend nearly $5 million on the three locks and dams on the Cape Fear River and upgrading recreational facilities.

Caswell Beach Mayor Harry Simmons says he wasn't surprised that beach renourishment funding was excluded from the projects. But he says money included to study the beaches might lead to future renourishment funding.

Glad to know that the state refund I have yet to get and .5% of my salary will go to help the dredging companies and the rich with their million dollar boats. This stinks...misappropriation of funds. Perdue should hide her face in shame.

Dredging or education? The education governor took education money out of the fund and placed it in the general fund. The education governor is going to let class size increase (including illegals), make teachers jobs harder and pay them less. Education governor huh? Pat McCrory doesn't look so bad now does he? If you voted Democratic, you are getting what you voted for. 2012 here yet?
