What's believed to be a bear attack in Chocowinity leaves two dogs severely injured, now their owner wants to warn other residents so they can keep their pets safe.

Julianne Harris a forester in Blounts Creek is a dog rescuer. She found two dogs abandoned and has been caring for them since. Last Thursday Harris says a bear entered her backyard, that's when she says her two dogs cornered it and the bear attacked back.

Harris says no one actually saw the attack but veterinarians believe it was a bear because of the injuries, now Harris wants to make sure other pet owners are careful. A wildlife officer told her, "Don't leave dog food out, dog scrapes in the yard, don't put bird seeds out right now or for the next month and also take your trash out everyday."

Right now, Harris's pit bull is doing a lot better then the hound. She believes the bear originally went after the hound, that's when the pit bull attacked trying to save the other animal.

Well Bud, the veterinarian's could probably tell which dog was attacked first & what attacked them because they have PhD's & are intelligent, unlike you since you don't even know that bears climb fences much like they climb trees! Just ask the Washington PD. That deserves the DUH award for the day! What is this the place for 2nd graders to post comments? Where do I go to post an adult comment? Best of luck to the dogs involved & hope they recover soon.

Uhh Anonymous how does a bear get into a fenced in yard? Unlatch the door? And how did he get back out, helicopter? I'd like to know why they think the hound was attacked first. Maybe the wounds were worse...
