Fire Prevention Week

It’s information that just might help save your life. All this week is fire prevention week. Greenville Fire and Rescue officials say the majority of home fires begin in the kitchen. But, they also say many fires are preventable. Firefighters say one of the biggest mistakes people make in the kitchen is putting food on the stove and walking away. When it develops into a grease fire, people tend to throw water on it, which they shouldn't do. Firefighters say for small grease fires, throw baking soda over the flames or use a Class B fire extinguisher. Fire officials recommend you check your smoke alarm regularly and always have a fire extinguisher handy.
