It's a solemn tradition associated with the North Carolina Seafood Festival.
The Blessing of the Fleet took place on Morehead City waterfront Sunday morning. The ceremony includes a blessing of commercial fishing vessels and their crews and a remembrance of those who have lost their lives at sea. The North Carolina Seafood Festival's Pam Morris tells us, the blessing of the fleet is not just for commercial fishermen and their families, but to raise public awareness.
Longtime commercial fisherman Captain Omie Tillett, from Wanchese, North Carolina was in charge of this year's ceremony.
