A Virginia based military research and development company will expand to Jones County in Eastern North Carolina and create 25 jobs over three years. Defense Holdings also will invest two million dollars in the project. The company on average will pay $880 a week plus benefits. That's nearly double the Jones County weekly average of $488 excluding benefits. Company officials say they plan to hire many retired veterans. The state is providing a $100,000 taxpayer-funded grant through the One North Carolina Fund. Defense Holdings specializes in systems engineering, information science and technical program management for the federal government and will do work for the military in eastern North Carolina. The company, based in Manassas, Virginia, has 54 employees in ten locations around the United States.
