It's peanut harvest time here in North Carolina the third largest peanut producer in the country. North Carolina produces 372 million pounds of peanuts per year and the majority of those peanuts are grown and harvested right here in Eastern Carolina. The soil and climate in the east create ideal growing conditions for the crop. However, peanut farmers we talked to say the dry spell in August created a less than desirable crop this season.
