Microburst Damages Peanut Research Station
The storms demolished a roof that's part of a state research facility in Lewiston-Woodville.

The National Weather Service says a microburst tore the roof off at a state research facility in Bertie County.

The roof of a fertilizer storage building was demolished at the Peanut Belt Research Station in Lewiston-Woodville. There were also several utility poles and trees blown down.

Witnesses said the wind picked up around 12:25 p.m.

There were no injuries.

There were spotty power outages on Piney Wood Road, on Governors Road, and in Lewiston-Woodville.

Bertie County Sheriff Greg Atkins says there was also a confirmed tornado touch down near Aulander. The sheriff said there were no reports of any damage from that tornado.

In Pitt County a funnel cloud was spotted by law enforcement near Pactolus shortly after noon.

In Beaufort County, several small trees were blown down in the Old Ford area.

The bridge tender at the Alligator River bridge reported gusts to 62 miles per hour.

The severe storms moving through Eastern Carolina are dropping hail across various communities.

Three-quarter inch hail was reported in Snow Hill in Greene County as well as in Winterville in Pitt County.

Half-inch hail was reported north of Farmville in Pitt County.

In Wayne County, near Fremont, penny-sized hail has been reported.

Quarter-inch hail has been reported near Pikeville in Wayne County as well.

In Nash County, three-quarter inch hail was reported near Spring Hope. Folks at the Cedar Island Ferry terminal reported one-inch hail Monday morning.

Being in a tornado drill position for awhile is very frustrating but think of it as saving your life sometime!!!!

Scary at school - we were in the hall against the wall for 1 hr.

it was very frightening for the students in school because they were against the wall for 1 hour
