Why The Disparity In Gas Prices Across Eastern Carolina?

Buy gas in many Eastern Carolina counties, including Martin, and you'll pay about $2.20 a gallon, a huge difference from what the same gas stations are charging in neighboring Pitt County. So why the disparity? The gas wars started in Greenville when new kid in town Sheetz opened up last week. Gas prices in the city quickly dropped to $1.99 a gallon. Turns out new gas stations, like Sheetz, can lower their prices below cost during a ten day grace period for store openings. Travis Sheetz, Vice President of Operations at Sheetz, says he doesn’t know if the Greenville store is operating under that condition. No one was clear on what the prices at the Sheetz in Greenville would be in the coming weeks.
