The father of an accused Duke University lacrosse player says Durham's district attorney is not in a position to criticize other attorneys for out-of-court comments.
Kevin Finnerty, whose son, Collin, is one of three players accused of raping a dancer at a team party in March, spoke yesterday with The News and Observer of Raleigh. District Attorney Mike Nifong has said defense lawyers should be punished for violating a prohibition on out-of-court comments.
Nifong has accused them of trying to influence the pool of potential jurors. Kevin Finnerty says that Nifong was the one who inflamed the
story by declaring his opinions early in the case.
