A man convicted of sexually abusing a child will spend up to 26 years behind bars.
Brandon Allen, of Highway 55 in New Bern, was sentenced this month to a minimum of 21 years and a maximum of 26 years in prison. A Beaufort County jury convicted Allen of first degree sex offense with a child and indecent liberties with a child.
Allen was 24 when the crime happened in 2007. The victim was 11.
According to a news release, the mother of the victim saw Allen "engaged in inappropriate contact with the victim at a residence in the Blounts Creek area of Beaufort County. The victim was taken to her father's residence in Craven County." That's where the father reported the crime to authorities and an investigation began.
"Sexual abuse of young children is an unfortunate and troubling reality that exists in Beaufort County," said Thomas Anglim, the assistant district attorney who prosecuted the case. "It is through the diligent efforts of Investigator Williams, Detective Penninger and the medical staff at Craven Medical that has allowed these crimes to be investigated and prosecuted."

All felonies can be prevented. Education, family values and principals start at home. We spend too much time and taxpayers money fighting crimes rather then preventing them. Our society incentivizes people to get in occupations to fight crime; however we do not promote or incentivize people to help prevent crimes. We need more community workers, social worker, family counselors, after school programs. The first please to start is at home followed by school and the environment and/or the situations we introduce our children to. I would like to see more social workers or family counselor knocking on doors working issues in our community; it appears that we rather spend our counties money on sheriff’s deputies, detectives, investigators, vehicles and all that other nonsense.

What this guy did is very wrong and he should be locked up! Doing that sick thing to a child isnt right and a child should never be treated like that. Come on people they are children!!

Common sense. They could hire someone to investigate child abuse who does not have a college degree, and pay them and it would be cheaper than us the Americans having to keep an offender in prison for 20 year. It does not take a college degree to see that a child is being abused. It takes common sense. Duh
