West Nile Virus in Pets?

A mosquito population at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base has tested positive for West Nile Virus, and state labs are confirming the findings. Though advice about avoiding the disease carrying mosquito bites usually focuses on people and horses, what about the family pet? Turns out West Nile Virus cannot be contracted from other animals, only from mosquitoes. Greenville Veterinarian Mark Hayes says additionally, contraction of the virus is rare in cats and dogs.
