Ayden police say a Junior ROTC teacher has been arrested.
Joseph Mitchell was charged today with indecent liberties with a student. The 43-year-old man was released on a $5,000 bond.
Ayden police chief Tim Moseley confirmed for WITN that the victim in this case was 14 years old.
The instructor was suspended from his job last month at Ayden-Grifton High School after the investigation began.
Moseley says their investigation shows Mitchell picked up the girl at the Piggly Wiggly in Ayden, and drove her to her home. Police say the child's mother was not at home and Mitchell is accused of inappropriate and unwanted touching.
Moseley says as far as he knows it only happened one time.
Mitchell is due in court tomorrow.

To all those who thought she was doing it for the attention well your all wrong...i go to school with her and she is picked on and harrassed and threatened everyday for telling the truth....i think it is horrible what some parents are teaching their kids...when someone reports a harassment they want support yes esp. if it was true but this girl who i know now has lost all of her friends. She had no grudge against the man obliviously because she took a ride from him, she didnt want what happened and i know this she feels bad that he got fired but why should she have kept it locked up inside and eventually end up in therapy??? she did the right thing reporting it and if no one in our school wants to beleive that SFC mitchell could have done some thing like that well for those people all i have to say is what if it was you?? or your sister?? and you were put in that situation. She never asked 4 attention, for al you who made her feel ashamed of the truth shame on you!!
If this was supposed to be the only offence or only happened one time then why do you automatically assume it is true? What if the girl is lying? Some teenagers would do it for the attention, why must we assume that it happened?
There were three stories on the news like this last night. What is wrong with people these days. These are children for Christ's sake. We are supposed to be there protectors not there abusers and users. We are to take care of them not hurt them. I feel so much empathy for children in today's times.
