A man from Stokes in Pitt County died in a single-car crash Sunday. The Highway Patrol says Anthony Lamont Staton died when his Chevrolet Caprice flipped off the road. He was 27.
Troopers say someone called in the crash Sunday morning, and troopers responded to the scene at 3:40 a.m. The Highway Patrol says Staton was speeding on Old Creek Rd. on the northeast side of Greenville, and he ran off the road. Troopers say Staton's car hit a traffic sign before hitting a ditch and flipping over. The car filled with water in the ditch bank.
Troopers tell WITN an autopsy will determine Staton's cause of death.
On Saturday, another Pitt County man died in a single-car crash. Marion Lamont McMillian was killed after the minivan he was driving flipped into a ditch near Falkland. He was 37.
