A volunteer firefighter has been upgraded to fair condition at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. That's according to a hospital spokesperson Monday morning.

Timothy King of Bertie County lost his legs when a vehicle hit him while he was about to help another motorist involved in an accident March 2 in Colerain in Bertie County.

Four days after an accident in Bertie County, a volunteer firefighter is still fighting for his life.

Pitt County Memorial Hospital officials said Friday afternoon that Timothy King remains in critical condition. King lost his legs when a vehicle hit him while he was about to help another motorist involved in an accident Monday in Colerain in Bertie County.

King's sister describes him as a very active person. He is also a father and an ordained minister.

Family members are in shock from an accident that involved a volunteer firefighter trying to help a woman on the side of the road.

Timothy King is listed in critical condition at the Pitt Memorial Hospital. He lost his legs when a vehicle hit him while he was about to help another motorist involved in an accident Monday in Colerain in Bertie County.

King's sister Jody says she is drained emotionally and physically. She has spent 48 tireless hours in the hospital--still in shock of what happened to her brother. "I was upset. I'm still upset. I've never seen my brother like that before."

Jody says she is used to seeing her brother being very active. She says Timothy is always playing paint ball or hanging around the bowling alley. King's active lifestyle, along with being a young 28 years-old is what doctors say will help aid the healing process.

King was recently ordained as a minister. Jody says Christian music is now playing in his room on an Ipod Greenville firefighters dropped off.

Donations can be made to Timothy King Fund, Trap Volunteer Fire Department , 744 Morris Ford Road, Colerain, NC 27924.

WITN: Is it true that he's in a private room now and they're going to start rehab soon? If so, this is BIG news that should've been reported. I heard it at the gas station yesterday. Several people were wondering what ever came of the story. I told them what I knew..which isn't much. Please put this story back so people can be advised on his condition. There are folks that think he's been forgotten.
