Sixteen-year-old Jake Poland shows off the big gash in his leg, a wound from a shark that bit him this weekend while surfing at Onslow Beach on Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base in Jacksonville.
It was only Jake's second time surfing. He was sharing a surfboard with his two friends, so his mother Twila left to go buy her son another surf board.
That's when it happened. Jake was sent to the Camp Lejeune Naval Hospital for five hours, where emergency room personnel confirmed the bite.
The bite was over a half inch deep that went through his muscle and required ten stitches.
