In recent months, we've shared with you the story of the "New Leash on Life Program" at Craven Correctional Institution in Vanceboro. It's a program that pairs up inmates with homeless dogs.
The inmates perform a community service by training the dogs to become more adoptable.
WITN's own Doppler Dog is a graduate. Monday, Eastern Correctional Institution in the Greene County town of Maury launched its own "New Leash on Life Program." The prison has partnered with three area animal control and protection agencies.
Eight inmates have been selected to train four dogs. Each dog will have a primary trainer and an apprentice trainer.
WITN Meteorologist Jamie Arnold and Doppler Dog were proud to be on hand for the kickoff event.
